Zionism, like all ethno-nationalist beliefs, seeks to dominate. It uses oppressive and violent means to do this. It worked to usurp Palestine, and then take more land - house by house, in places like Al Quds (Jerusalem); village by village in the West Bank; and region by region, as in Gaza. It has been a process of ethnic-cleansing from the start, that uses apartheid inequality, despicable demolitions, settler colonialism and genocidal military operations. In this video I briefly explain its origins and development.
Western states - originally Britain and France, but later the United States - wanted a colony in the heart of the Middle East to protect and project its interests. In the early years, Zionist leaders suggested they could deliver on this. Later Zionist leaders had their own independent ideas.
The tension remains, yet the symbiotic relationship continues. The assault on Gaza, and the active support of western governments is ample evidence for that.
